INTO WORK WORKSHOP with Christopher Bishop List MP and Louise Upston MP
No events to show
Description
Join Louise Upston MP, Spokesperson for Social Development and Employment and Chris Bishop List MP for Hutt South, to talk about their plans to create opportunities for assisting job seekers into work.
Businesses across the country are crying out for workers, yet 177,000 people remain on the Jobseeker benefit.
In the Canterbury region alone there are 17,373 people on Jobseeker, an increase of 6,896 people or 66% under the Labour Government since 2017.
At a time with record low unemployment and businesses desperate for workers, these numbers should be much lower.
Jobseeker is supposed to be a temporary, short-term payment to keep people afloat while they look for a job. It’s not supposed to be a long-term income source for people who can work. National believes that the only viable path out of hardship is a secure job. and that if we do not break the cycle of dependence, we risk squandering New Zealanders’ full potential.
If you are an employer looking for workers, or a business or organisation supporting jobseekers into work, a senior getting back into the workforce or a Parent returning to work, please join us at the workshop and also pass on the invitation to anyone you think would benefit from attending.
Louise Upston, MP & Chris Bishop, MP want to hear about local initiatives that are getting people off welfare and into work at these workshops, especially from agencies working with Jobseekers. They are keen to hear your thoughts on what is working and what isn’t.
Founded by Parliamentary Service. Authorised by Louise Upston, Parliament Buildings Wellington.
This event is hosted at The Hutt Valley Chamber Of Commerce who work to connect local businesses looking for employees and organisations including collages that have potential employees looking for work.
