This session is hosted by BNZ and are an opportunity to network with like-minded people from our business community whilst showcasing three speakers sharing what their organisations are working on.

Dr Paul Benjes | General Manager, GlycoSyn

Dr Paul Benjes is the General Manager of GlycoSyn and provides leadership through his wealth of scientific and managerial knowledge. He has 20 year of experience as a synthetic organic chemist and originally joined GlycoSyn in 2005 as Process Development Manager. A year later, he became Operations Manager, with responsibility for both chemistry development and GMP manufacturing. In 2008, Paul combined his skill sets into his current leadership role as General Manager, guiding the overall operation of GlycoSyn, our strategic direction, productivity, and profitability.

Paul hold a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Otago and carried out post-doctoral research at the University of Bristol in England. Before joining GlycoSyn, Paul was a research scientist in the internationally recognised Carbohydrate Chemistry Team at the Industrial Research Limited (IRL), helping with contract synthesis and process development for the wide variety of potential drug substances.

Prof Gary Evans | Director, Ferrier Research Institute

Professor Gary Evans has a background in organic, medicinal and process development chemistry. Gary carried out his degree and PhD in Chemistry at the University of Otago followed by postdoctoral studies at the University of Oxford. Gary’s research has focussed on the design and development of drugs for the treatment of unmet medical needs. Gary has more than 100 peer reviewed publications with an H-index of 40 and several hundred patents.
