Support Worker - The Laura Fergusson Trust

The Laura Fergusson Trust provides a comfortable, accessible, well maintained residential facility and homelike environment and, community based support services that enable people with a disability, to live a supported and independent lifestyle.

Key Tasks:

  • Support clients to stay healthy and well, in alignment with their goals and support plans
  • Ensure all paperwork and documentation is accurate and recorded within a timely manner
  • Develop and sustain working relationships, using strength based strategies, with clients and clear communication with all others.
  • Take a central role, as a key worker to assigned clients, in the provision of support, resources and information tailored to a clients individual needs, maintaining contact with their family/whanau.
  • Provide support to enable clients to connect with their community and whanau with recreational, work and cultural experiences.

Key Skillset and Attributes:

  • Good listening, oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively with people that may have challenging behaviours and high and complex support needs
  • A minimum of beginners level of computer literacy in Microsoft Office software
  • Understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Respect for and sensitivity to cultural, health and disability needs
  • Able to work both independently and part of team with excellent problem solving skills
  • Experience in the not for profit sector
