After an extremely successful Awards in 2022 we are proud to announce details for the 2degrees Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards 2023.

These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of the business community in our vibrant region.

Entries Open Monday, 3rd July 2023 at 8.00 am.

Entries Close on Friday, 22nd September 2023 at 5.00 pm.

Finalists announced at this year’s Finalist Function will be held on Thursday, 19th October at the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club – 11 Logan Street, Ebdentown, Upper Hutt.

Official Awards Gala Event will take place on Friday, 17th November 2023 at 6.00 pm.

For the 2023 awards, there are 4 Special award categories including:

  • Young Business Person,
  • Excellence in Sustainability and Environmental Practices,
  • Small Business,
  • Diversity & Inclusion

and 5 business categories, which include:

  • Excellence in Manufacturing,
  • Excellence in Technology and Innovation,
  • Excellence in Hospitality, Tourism and Retail,
  • Excellence in Service and Support,
  • Excellence in Construction, Trades and Infrastructure,

A Supreme Award winner will be selected from the winners of the business categories.

As part of these awards, we will also induct a business into The Wellington Region Business Hall of Fame. This is a unique award which recognises and celebrates those enduring businesses that have made significant contributions to the economic and social fabric of our region.

There is always a diverse range of industries which enter the awards, and size is no issue. We receive entries from small, medium and large businesses, each judged on its own merit.

All entries received are judged by an independent judging panel.

The awards are free to enter and are open to any business based within the Wellington Region.

The awards, now in its 15th year, celebrate the local businesses that contribute to the region’s vibrant and successful business community.

The awards are an opportunity for businesses to celebrate their efforts, drive and determination, as well as their contribution to our communities.

At 2degrees we’re proud to be working with Kiwi businesses to help them adapt and thrive. Our Wellington team see the passion, innovation and dedication of businesses across the region every day, and these awards give us a chance to celebrate them for all they do.”

The official presentation of awards will take place at the awards gala dinner on Friday, 17th November 2023 at the Lower Hutt Events Centre. The event is expected to attract up to 500 guests.

The overall winner will be selected from the category winners and awarded the Supreme Business of the Year Award.

It’s also the perfect time of year to celebrate the end of another year in business. Table bookings will be made available closer to the time.

Excellence in Services & Support Sponsored By The Sebel

  • Recognises organisations whose main business is providing service rather than a product. Such as, accountants, lawyers, recruitment, advisory, software providers, IT, Marketing, healthcare, community support groups, product design, architecture, engineering real estate 

Excellence in Manufacturing Sponsored By BNZ

  • Recognises business excellence in manufacturing.  This includes any type of manufacturing of a product for sale in New Zealand or Internationally.

Excellence in Technology & Innovation  Sponsored By Pertronic

  • This award recognises achievement in businesses that excel in the delivery or use of technology (physical or digital) or a business that has innovated to deliver their service or product. 

Excellence in Hospitality, Tourism & Retail Sponsored By Woburn International

  • This award recognises achievement in businesses working in the hospitality, tourism, leisure, retail and personal services such as Hairdressing, Health, Fitness & Beauty. (Online or Physical Store)

  • Recognises business excellence within Construction, trades & infrastructure or suppliers to these industries. Such as businesses that are working in the trades, construction and infrastructure sector or organisations supporting the trades, construction, and infrastructure industry.

Young Businessperson of the Year Sponsored By PKF Kendons

  • This award celebrates an extraordinary young businessperson who exhibits qualities that inspire our business community, their peers, or their organisation. This person must exhibit an excellent level of business standards and ethics, have proven business achievement, and plans for future growth of themselves and their business. This person must be aged 30 and under (by 31 March 2023). The person must either be nominated by another person or have someone willing to endorse their nomination and act as a reference during the judging process.

Excellence in sustainable & environmental practices Sponsored By CentrePort

  • Recognises a business that has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to environmental and sustainable processes or innovation.  We’re looking for businesses leading the way in sustainable practices, including circular economy, resource efficiency, innovation, emissions reduction, environmental restoration, and community collaboration.

Best Small Business Sponsored By Upper Hutt City Council

  • This award recognises achievement in a business with up to ten full-time or equivalent employees. This can be any business or organisation from any industry. 

Diversity & Inclusion Sponsored By Hutt City Council 

  • Recognises and excel in Diversity and Inclusion in business and the community; this may include te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, partnership, equity, equal treatment, and fostering an inclusive approach to employment and supporting people with disabilities. This includes a duty to act reasonably and in good faith – that means understanding that Māori, Pasifika, other cultures, and people with disabilities are different, in which respect needs to be given to these differences.

  • The Wellington Region Business Hall of Fame is a unique award which recognises and celebrates those enduring businesses that have made significant contributions to the economic and social fabric of our region. Not-Self Nominated – This will be a selection & invitation process.

Entry Information

  • First, register for an account on the online platform which opens on Monday 3rd of July.
  • You will be required to create an account before proceeding to create your submission. Once you have created your account you can log in and out as many times as you need to complete your submission and save your nomination progress. Please make sure all your details are entered accurately, including contact details.
  • You may edit your entry until submitted. You are eligible to enter more than one category. You can use the ‘copy’ feature to create a copy of your entry and change the category as required. Before starting your entry please make sure that you have read the terms and conditions found on the awards platform.
  • Provide short concise bullet points with sufficient information so the judges are able to easily evaluate your entry.
  • Each entry will require a business biography in addition to answering the questions.

You will be contacted directly if there is an issue with your submission or if we require you to change the category to meet the criteria.

Judging takes place between 22nd September and 13th October 2023 by a team of independent judges.  

Finalists are announced on Thursday, 19th  October 2023, at a celebratory event held for all finalists and sponsors at The Upper Hutt Cossie Club. 5.00pm – 7.30pm.

The Wellington Regional Business Excellence Awards Ceremony – Presentation & Dinner – takes place on Friday, 17 November 2023. At the Lower Hutt Events Centre from 6pm.

The announcement of business category winners, special category winners and the overall Supreme Business of the Year winner will be made at the awards presentation. Bookings will be essential, and there are LIMITED TICKETS, so ensure you book early. 

  1. The entry platform is open from 8 am on Monday 3rd July 2023  
  2. The Awards are open to all businesses operating within the Wellington Region. 
  3. There is no cost to enter. 
  4. Entries must be submitted online and additional material may be supplied as follows: Upload JPEG or PDF files. Maximum file size is 5MB per piece. A maximum of five pieces can be uploaded with your entry. 
  5. Video attachments may be hosted on a video site such as YouTube or Vimeo. Provide website URLs to the publicly accessible campaign or active URL of a landing page. 
  6. All entrants must provide true and accurate information and disclose any liabilities such as business and/or tax-related and/or current pending litigation which could compromise the judge’s analysis of the business, and/or adversely affect the integrity and reputation of the Business Excellence Awards. 
  7. Provide short, concise bullet points with sufficient information so the judges can easily evaluate your entry. 
  8. Category Winners from the previous year can re-enter.  
  9. Winners from the Business Categories WILL be eligible for the Supreme Award. Winners of the Special Categories will NOT be eligible for the Supreme Award

By entering you give permission to the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce to publicise the name of your business if it is named as a category finalist.  

All entries remain strictly confidential, and all material provided will be limited to the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and the judging panel.

  1. Judges are carefully selected for their skill and knowledge in relation to the categories they will be judging. Any conflicts of interest are identified and eliminated as part of the appointment process. All judges sign a confidentiality agreement requiring all information received from and discussions with entrants to remain confidential, not to be used for any purpose other than to assess each entry and to reach a decision for the finalists and winners of each category and the overall Supreme Award. All entries are strictly confidential.
  2. All Business category winners will be considered for the Supreme Award, winners of Special Categories are not eligible for the Supreme Award. 
  3. During the judging process, judges have the right to change entrants into whichever category they consider may be better suited to the entrant. In the event of any change, entrants will be notified by the Awards Coordinator prior to their entry category being changed. 
  4. Decisions made by the judging panel are final and may not be disputed
  5. The judges’ notes will be collated and made available on request in summary feedback after the Awards.
  6. All Finalists will be contacted by Clarative Media, and a short video will be produced and shown during the Gala awards dinner.

Who can enter?

  • The Awards are open to all businesses operating within the Wellington Region
  • Category Winners from the previous year are able to re-enter.

Do I need to be a Chamber member?

No, the Chamber welcomes entries from all businesses throughout the Wellington Region regardless of their membership status.

How much time will it take to put my entry together?

If you already have marketing and business plans, then you’ll have a lot of the information already on hand to complete the entry form. If you do not have these documents, this is a great opportunity to get all the information in your head onto paper.  There are people/companies who can assist you with the process if you wish. If I am a small business can I enter?

Yes, small, medium and large businesses are invited to enter. There is also a category for Small Businesses if you have less than 10 employees.

Can I enter the Special Categories alone?

Yes, you can elect to enter just the special categories (Young Businessperson of the Year, Excellence in Sustainable & environmental practices, Best Small Business and Diversity & Inclusion). However, these category winners do not proceed to the Supreme Award.

How is feedback provided?

After the Awards are announced, you can request a copy of the judge’s notes on your entry. Judges’ feedback may assist you with understanding the highs and lows of your business. This will be in summary form.

Who gets to see my entry? Is it confidential?

It is confidential. The only people that see your entry are the awards coordinator and the judges.

Do I have to attend the Awards Dinner?

All entrants are encouraged to attend the Awards presentation on Friday, 17th November 2023. The dinner is an opportunity for you to celebrate with your peers and colleagues.

When do entries close?

Entries close at 5pm on Friday, September 22nd 2023.
